Introduction of on-grid & off-grid system
The on-grid system that connects solar power generation, home grids, and public grids, and must rely on the existing power grid to operate. It is mainly composed of solar modules and inverters.

Solar cell

It is a photoelectric semiconductor sheet that uses sunlight to directly generate electricity and is an energy converter for solar photovoltaic power generation.

The principle of solar cell power generation is the photovoltaic effect (Photovoltaic Effect).

When sunlight shines on the solar cell, the cell absorbs light energy and generates photo-generated electron-hole pairs. Under the action of the built-in electric field of the battery, the photo-generated electrons and holes are separated, and the accumulation of different signs of charge appears at both ends of the battery, which generates a “photo-generated voltage”, which is the “photovoltaic effect”. If the electrodes are drawn on both sides of the built-in electric field and the load is connected, the load will have a “photo-generated current” flowing through it, thereby obtaining power output. In this way, the light energy of the sun directly becomes usable electrical energy.

The on-grid system

The on-grid system that connects solar power generation, home grids, and public grids, and must rely on the existing power grid to operate.

It is mainly composed of solar modules and inverters. The solar panels generate DC power and are converted into 220V AC power by the inverter to supply power to household appliances. When the power generated by solar energy exceeds the power used by household appliances, the excess power is transmitted to the public grid; and when the power generated by solar energy cannot meet the requirements of household appliances. When electrical appliances are used, they are automatically replenished from the grid.

Advantages of the on-grid system:

The on-grid system is composed of on-grid inverters and solar panels. It does not store energy through the battery and directly inputs electric energy into the public grid through the on-grid inverter. Compared with the off-grid system, the on-grid system saves the battery energy storage and release process, reduces the energy consumption, saves the space occupied, and reduces the configuration cost.

Disadvantages of the on-grid system:

When the public grid is out of power, solar photovoltaic power generation cannot operate either.

The on-grid system is suitable for:

Areas with state subsidies, factories, offices, and other areas where electricity is not used during the day and night without energy storage, and areas where electricity costs are expensive.

The off-grid system

The off-grid system does not rely on the grid but operates independently.

It mainly consists of solar modules, energy storage batteries, charge and discharge controllers, inverters, and other components. The electricity generated by the solar panel flows directly into the battery and is stored. When it is necessary to supply power to the appliance, the DC current in the battery is converted into 220V AC power through the inverter, which is a repeated cycle of the charging and discharging process.

Advantages of the off-grid system:

It is not restricted by region and does not depend on the local power grid. It is widely used and can be installed and used as long as there is sunlight.

Disadvantages of the off-grid system:

It must be equipped with batteries, and it accounts for 30-50% of the cost of the power generation system. Moreover, the service life of the battery is generally 3-5 years, and it has to be replaced afterward, which adds to the cost of use. In terms of economy, it is difficult to be widely promoted and used, so it is not suitable for use in places where electricity is convenient.

The off-grid system is suitable for:

Remote areas without power grids, isolated islands, areas with unstable or expensive electricity, etc., can also be used as emergency power generation equipment in areas with frequent power outages.
